Humpage courtyard

A side courtyard cleared and laid with sandstone, a brick planter and a slate circle.

Before and after of a side courtyard, from bare soil and weeds to sandstone paving, a brick planter and a slate circle.
Before and after. Photographs from the original Hertfordshire Garden Landscapes portfolio.

The portfolio lists this as a courtyard garden. The photographs show a narrow side return: bare soil, weeds and a concrete panel fence on the left, and the finished garden on the right.

The new surface is sandstone paving running the length of the house. A low brick planter holds the level change against the boundary, with a band of slate and three upright stones set in a circle of pebbles. Pots line the wall of the house, and a timber screen closes the far end.

It is a useful reference if your “garden” is really a passage. The planting is in the planter and the pots, so the paving can stay clear.

Service: Hard landscaping.
